Beloved in Christ,

Here is a brief post-Day of Pentecost message for you.

From the Gospel reading this past Sunday, John 15:26:
[Jesus said:]  “When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, He will bear witness about Me.”

The Holy Spirit’s work is all about pointing us to Jesus and reminding us by His Word all of Jesus’ teachings (Christian doctrine).  The Holy Spirit’s work is not Holy Spirit-centered but Christ-centered.  The Holy Spirit wants us to know and trust in Jesus Christ as our Savior from sin in whom we have forgiveness and eternal life.
Here’s a good review for you from Luther’s Small Catechism (from his explanation to the Third Article of the Apostles’ Creed).

I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith.
In the same way He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith.
In this Christian church He daily and richly forgives all my sins and the sins of all believers.
On the Last Day, He will raise me and all the dead, and give eternal life to me and all believers in Christ.
This is most certainly true.
(Luther’s Small Catechism, CPH, 1986, p. 17)

Rejoice in the power of God at work in you by His Holy Spirit working through Word and Sacrament.
